The alcoholic robot is actually one of Planet Express’ worst employees, doing enough to get fired on multiple occasions. To name but a few, he’s abused electricity at work, burnt their couch, stolen from the crew and generally lounged about doing nothing.
Oh, and how about the fact that he frequently serves poisonous food as the crew’s official chef?
He actually does get fired once too, and ends up goofing around at the cryogenics lab for a while instead before returning.
Despite this, he’s a brilliant character, with great plots, obnoxious one-liners and his time on the show is chock full of brilliantly quotable moments.
Between Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, BoJack, Archer and Rick Sanchez, it seems like all the major adult cartoons have an alcoholic as their heavy hitter. Matt Groening’s other show, Disenchantment, is having a go through Princess Bean too.
The fact that Bender is not only comfortable in their company but also many peoples’ favourite from that list shows just how great a character he is. Hilarious in almost every outing, he deservedly takes the crown as the best character to ever work for Planet Express.
