Futurama: Every Time Travel Story Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Bender's Big Score

Coming off the back of two Futurama-less years, Bender’s Big Score was a big deal for fans of the show. It was the beginning of a new era, it was the first of four movies, and as such the writers pulled out all the stops with a huge time travel story.

Introducing the universal time code allowed free travel to the past without having to worry about the kind of issues that plagued Decision 3012, and was the key to the entire narrative. Fry was lost in the past alongside another version living in the future, as well as who knows how many Benders running around.

The robot said it himself, it was a confusing story, and even now, 15 years later, there are plot holes that can’t quite be figured out and couldn’t be saved by the time code plot device. The worst thing Bender’s Big Score did however, was retcon some of the biggest moments in Futurama history with its time travel.

Seymour no longer waited for years since Fry was alive and well in the past, and Yancy had no reason to name his son Phil since his brother didn’t disappear. No story was worth robbing these moments of their gravity and poignancy.
