Futurama: Every Time Travel Story Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Game Of Tones
Strictly, this episode featured no traditional time traveling. There was no mention of a time machine, no microwaves, time codes, or opal essence. Instead, Fry was sent back to his old life by the power of the Professor’s dream machine.
Fry never technically went back in time, but he did go back and live his old life even if only in a dream. He walked the streets of Old New York, petted Seymour, and spoke to his mom again. The only difference was as this was based on his memory, he was only limited to seeing what he had seen before.
This meant that once he left his house to go to work on 31st December 1999, he couldn’t go back in. It was genuinely heartbreaking, but after Fry helped save the universe from Nibbler’s drunken stupidity, he was rewarded with being able to speak to his mom properly in his dream once again.
This is up there with the best of them as far as emotion in Futurama goes, and though its bending the rules ever so slightly to include it on this list, this writer feels it deserves its place.
