Futurama: Every Time Travel Story Ranked From Worst To Best

4. The Why Of Fry

There are very few stories that ran consistently throughout Futurama’s run. As is the case with most animated shows, everything was usually back to normal at the end of the episode and never mentioned again. The Why of Fry however, connected back to something from the very first episode of the show.

Way back on 31st December 1999, Philip J. Fry fell into a freezer tube and was sent to the year 3000. However, he didn’t fall. There was a mysterious shadow in the shot back in Space Pilot 3000, that was confirmed many years later to be Nibbler.

Though the Nibblonian didn’t travel back in time, Fry ultimately did thanks to the giant brains. He went with the intention of reclaiming his life in the past, after having it robbed by Nibbler, but in the moment he realised how much better Leela made his life. His relationship with Leela became the focal point of the show, and this was one of their first truly special moments, even if she was oblivious to it.

Fry turned out to be the most important person in the world, and thanks to his Scooty Puff Sr. the second time around, he saved the universe and chose to live in the future with Leela. Sweet, smart, and everything we love about Futurama.

This standard nerd combines the looks of Shaggy with the brains of Scooby, has an unhealthy obsession with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is a firm believer that Alter Bridge are the greatest band in the world.
