Futurama: Every Time Travel Story Ranked From Worst To Best
3. The Late Philip J. Fry
As said before, though not quite on Simpson-esque levels, there is a very noticeable dip in quality through the run of Futurama. There are only a handful of episodes after the show’s finale that are up there with the first run, but The Late Philip J. Fry is absolutely one of them.
While testing the Professor’s new time machine, he, Fry, and Bender were thrown forward in time in a similar way to how Fry was forced into the year 3000. While in search of a backward time machine (who knew that a normal time machine didn’t go backward and forwards as standard), Fry was just sent further and further from Leela.
While he was passing through times dominated by giraffes and blood-thirsty shrimp, Leela was on her own journey of grief and discovery until they came full circle through a second big bang and back home.
There was a lot of fun in this episode, with the ever-changing eras on Earth showing new and interesting dynamics, but the bonding between Fry, Bender, and the Professor was also great to see. You can’t watch the sun explode and not feel closer to the ones you watched it with (you would imagine).
