Game Of Thrones: 10 Actors Who Were Almost Cast

2. Derek Halligan

Derek Halligan Casting your mind back to the first season of Game of Thrones, you may recall the character of the Night's Watch Master-of-Arms, Alliser Thorne. Pudgy and whey-faced with curly blonde hair, it was he who gave Samwell Tarly the nickname "Lord Piggy" and generally behaved like an unlikeable arsehole in training the recruits, going so far as to mock Jon Snow after his adopted father, Ned, was arrested for treason. Though Owen Teale certainly bought the character to suitably loathsome life, its notable that Derek Halligan was originally set for the role. Halligan, scrawnier and more verminous-looking than Teale, left the project for "unspecified reasons" (apologies to both men for my unflattering physical descriptions - they are, of course, both great character actors). After two seasons off-screen, Teale will be returning in the role for Season Four. Finally, after so long with just Joffrey and Walder Frey, someone else that fans can really hate!
