Game Of Thrones: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One
4. Stannis Baratheon
Whether you agree with him or not, there's no denying that Stannis Baratheon made his mark on the series and deserves to be remembered for it.
Stannis referred to himself as The Rightful King, and that's a pretty accurate description. As the younger brother to King Robert Baratheon, he had the most legitimate claim to the line of succession, putting him on par with the Targaryen lineage as having the most rightful stake in the Game of Thrones.
He was introduced in the season two opening episode and became one of the major contenders for the throne from there. This sense of order and proper tradition would be a major part of his character, as Stannis played by the book and presented himself as a severe and stoic person.
However, he would have glimpses of trouble thanks to his allegiance with Melisandre and commitment to the Lord of Light, which drove him to perform some awful deeds, including sacrificing his daughter.
Stannis was complex yet straightforward, which made him a wonderfully entertaining contrast to the other characters in the show.
