Game Of Thrones: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One
3. Oberyn Martell
After season three, Game of Thrones needed to do some major things to keep itself exciting. The Red Wedding had just cost fans a whole bunch of beloved characters, and somebody was going to need to step in to cauterize the wound before fans turned the channel. That character was Oberyn Martell.
Oberyn was a member of the influential Martell family, the rulers of Dorne who stood outside of the Seven Kingdoms. Thus, his arrival to King's Landing brought a whole new flavour to the place, as his less repressed attitude and badass yet laid-back personality stood out like a sore thumb.
The Red Viper of Dorne had viewers hooked instantly, as he was charming, a great fighter and easily a mental match for the plotters and schemers of the capital. Of course, his tragic demise after only one season was a disappointing way to see him go out, but also a great sign that the show never held back on killing fan-favourites.
This extraordinary character gave fans a great taste of the southern kingdom, and sadly would be the only good taste for Dorne from then on.
