Illyrio Mopatis is perhaps the most important character in Game Of Thrones history that no one is talking about. In fact, it could be argued that Illyrio Mopatis is responsible for everything that the show is building towards. And yet… Who is he? More importantly, where is he?
For those that need a quick refresher, Illyrio Mopatis was the Magister from Pentos that arranged for Dany and Khal Drogo to marry. He was a huge supporter of House Targaryen, and gave Daenerys the eggs that hatched into her three, world-destroying dragons. So, yeah, what the hell Illyrio? Where you at?
That such a pivotal character was never mentioned after changing the course of the show is a big deal, but an even bigger deal is the question of where did he get the dragon eggs? Are there more eggs that he’s hiding? What does he want from Dany?
If he simply wanted to see her sit on the Iron Throne, than where is he now that she’s primed to take over the Seven Kingdoms? If Illyrio Mopatis ever returns, we hope that Queen Daenerys asks him the tough questions, or that he calls in an unknown debt in a game changing way. Either way, the story of Illyrio Mopatis seems too big to leave unresolved.
