Game Of Thrones: 10 Darkest Moments The Show Left Out

8. The Fate Of Pyat Pree

Game of Thrones Bran Stark
HBO

Dany's story at the end of season two culminated with a showdown against the mysterious Warlocks of Qarth and their leader Pyat Pree. After they steal her dragons, Dany gets revenge, Targaryen-style, by burning the head of the Warlocks alive. It was a pretty nasty way to go, but it seems preferable compared to his book fate.

In the books Euron Greyjoy is up to some seriously manacle activity. Apart from causing mayhem up and down the coasts of Westeros, he's also dabbling in dark magic. A sample chapter from Martin's much awaited The Winds of Winter sheds light on his troubling behaviour.

Euron is gathering holy men, presumably to perform some kind of blood ritual. Unlike in the show, his younger brother, Aeron, refuses to join him and is subjected to torment. While being held in a dungeon, he's joined by other holy men who have suffered horrific mutilations, including having their hands burnt off.

Hanging form the ceiling is crazed old Warlock screaming one word: "Pree". One eye has been gouged out, leaving him in a state of insanity. Aeron believes he's calling for his god, but to the reader it's obvious this was the Warlock Dany encountered in Qarth.
