Game Of Thrones: 10 Huge Questions To Consider Before Season 7
4. How Much More Will We See Of Sam?
Samwell Tarly might be a fan favourite character, but he didn't receive a massive amount of screen time during season six. It's understandable: there's a huge amount going on and at the close of season five he and Gilly basically travelled away from it all.
Nevertheless he did still appear sporadically, stealing the Valryian steel sword Heartsbane before arriving in Oldtown to begin his training as maester of the Night's Watch. It begs the question, however: what relevance will Sam's story now play? But given a bit of thought, there's a chance Sam is quietly becoming one of the most important characters on the entire show.
Think about it: we've known for a long time now that the ultimate antagonists are the White Walkers, and Sam is the closest person to understanding how to defeat them. Remember when he told Stannis that he managed to kill a Walker using a Dragonglass dagger? And now he has a sword of Valryian steel, the other known material that can kill them. When hope of defeating the Walkers seems at its lowest, Sam may be the one to figure out why these properties kill the Walkers and how they can be utilised.
