Though he appeared in only five episodes, Viserys Targaryen was one of the most despicable characters in the show. While he may have been overtaken by the likes of Joffrey, Ramsay, and even Walder Frey after season one, Daenerys’ older brother treated every single person as though they were beneath him, sold his sister to Khal Drogo as if she were a slave, and beat her at the slightest trigger.

Over such a short period of time the Khaleesi's brother became hated, and his death, the first real major death of the series, was incredibly satisfying, brutal, and ironic.

It seemed all the entitled son of the Mad King ever spoke about was the crown he deserved and the army that Drogo now owed him, completely disregarding the customs and culture of the Dothraki. He even went as far as unsheathing his sword in Vaes Dothrak, a crime worse than anything else he could have done.

Since Khal Drogo was unable to shed blood in his sacred city, Daenerys’ husband got wonderfully creative, giving Viserys the crown he so desperately desired in the form of pouring molten gold over his skull. The Targaryen prince died in agony.
