Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Brutal Deaths

4. Oberyn Martell

Much like Viserys, Oberyn Martell was able to make a huge impact on the Game of Thrones landscape in such a short period of time. Pedro Pascal appeared in just seven episodes through season four, instantly making the charismatic and charming Prince of Dorne one of the most popular characters in the series.

Since the south of Westeros was yet to be explored in the show by the time he arrived in King’s Landing, Oberyn represented a whole new culture in Game of Thrones. From the laissez-faire approach to his sex life, to the bravery and cockiness that led to his eventual demise.

After Tyrion Lannister demanded a trial by combat, Oberyn stepped up, not only because he believed the Imp was innocent, but because it would give him a chance to face the Mountain - the man who raped the Viper’s sister before murdering her and her children.

Martell’s speed and accuracy with his spear allowed him to get the better of Ser Gregor Clegane, before his unwillingness to deliver the final blow before a confession proved his undoing. The Mountain knocked the Viper off his feet, and using the brute strength he was known throughout the country for, squeezed and burst his adversary’s head, spilling blood and brains all over the battlefield floor.
