Just as fans all started to get behind Stannis and believe he could somehow take over Winterfell and eventually become king of the Seven Kingdoms, he goes and does something like this. Everyone knew how much he craved power, but to stoop to the levels of killing his own daughter just to obtain it was something that was hard to believe.

As his soldiers escorted his young daughter to her death, there was an increasing sense of dread with every footstep she took in the snow. However, it was only once she was put tied up and set on fire that the emotional impact really hit. 

As Shireen screamed her heart out for her father to help her, he just stood by with his wife staring at what he'd done to achieve his goal. The worst part is, it didn't work. Stannis was willing to sacrifice his family to sit on the Iron Throne and all he got for it was Brienne's sword chopping of his head. 

It looks like trusting in the fiery gods didn't work as well as he'd doped. Doh!
