Game Of Thrones: 10 Reasons Why A Prequel Series Would Be Awesome

5. Foreshadowing

The producers could do more for a prequel series with their encyclopedic knowledge of the saga than just include recognizable nods to the future and fill in gaps for the narratives told in past seasons. Foreshadowing is more academic than enjoyable if solely serving a story already unfolded, and the sense of fun to the prequel would be somewhat muted by only seeing the obvious planting of familiar seeds for what has already been sown. With the prophecies that play pivotal roles the books largely omitted from the television adaptation, much of the storytelling has progressed in a linear fashion with little mystery. As producers presumably know if Tyrion really was hated by Tywin because he is a bastard born of Aerys Targaryen and Tywin's wife or if Jon Snow is really the secret product of Rhaegar and Lyanna or if Howland Reed really is the key to everything, what better way to tease unwitting viewers far in advance of events that have yet to unfold? It's rare for an episode of Game of Thrones to reach an entirely unspoiled audience nowadays, so to beat the source material by dropping hints in a prequel would be deliciously tantalizing as the saga unfolds.
