Game Of Thrones: 10 Smartest Changes HBO Made From The Books
4. Zombie dragon bringing down the wall
This was worthy of an '80s heavy metal album cover: Pure awesomeness and pure fan service.
When we first saw the sheer size of The Wall and realised what it was defending the Seven Kingdoms from we all knew it was going to come crashing down but the question was how?
Luckily the show's creators knew how to pander to the fans and delivered one of the most insane moments in the franchise's running.
After fighting the undead, Dany's dragon Viserion is killed by the Night King and promptly turned into his very own, brand spanking new, zombie dragon.
Riding said dragon he leads his army to The Wall and unleashes a storm of blue fire, destroying everything in its path, including Castle Black.
Obviously the books haven't even come close to doing anything like this, Dany's only just started to fly one of them herself. However given the power of the dragons and how Martin likes to torture his heroes it seems unlikely someone won't be pitted against one of the winged terrors at some point. Maybe it will be Dany required to take down one of her own children?
Say what you will about the lack of subtlty in the later episodes but they know how to raise the stakes.
