Game Of Thrones: 10 Smartest Changes HBO Made From The Books
3. Hold The Door Please, Hodor
Nooooo, it's still too soon, if you weren't moved to tears by this then you have no soul.
All Hodor wanted was to serve House Stark faithfully and maybe have the occasional cooked breakfast.
He's been a loyal guardian to Bran, helping to carry him all across the North, braving the undead, harsh cold and thunder all so Bran could find the Three Eyed Raven.
Until this point the reasons why Hodor could say only his name had been a mystery. The reasons for their cause are almost as tragic as the final outcome.
A slight time travel element was being introduced at this point in the series (which was promptly forgotten in later episodes) and Hodor's destiny and purpose were all set in motion.
Seeing as this episode was penned by Martin and Hodor's story is still a mystery in the books it does feel likely there may be some similarities in the book.
Was he always meant to sacrifice himself in order to save Bran? To "Hold the door" right up until Hodor Hodors his last Hodor? Time will tell.
