Game Of Thrones: 10 Smartest Changes HBO Made From The Books

2. Arya Versus The Freys

The Red Wedding was an upsetting affair for fans, a huge number of good guys and key characters got betrayed and massacred at the Twins, all because Walder Frey felt slighted.

We were left waiting and wanting for revenge, big emphasis on the waiting.

Then we got it.

Both of Arya's attacks on House Frey were unexpected and satisfying, managing to utilise her new skills and training as an assassin courtesy of the faceless men. Arya disguised herself as a serving girl before revealing to Walder that she had carved up and served his sons inside meat pies before cutting his throat.

He was forced to look up at a Stark, smiling at him, as he dies and that's before she uses his own face to become head of the Frey household and poison the remainder of his family at a feast.

There's no knowing how or even if the Freys will get their comeuppance, or if it will be at the hands of a Stark as they're unpopular even amongst their allies.

Catelyn Stark is still, technically, alive in the books and out for revenge against the Boltons and the Freys so it may well be her that delivers the final blow.

Whatever the outcome it sucks to be a Frey.
