Game Of Thrones: 10 Storylines That Should Have Been Cut
7. Yara's Failed Rescue
The whole Reek sub-plot is excellent and morbidly fascinating, and it helped elevate Ramsay to the show's greatest ever villain (Euron's made some claims that he's worse, but it's yet to be proven), but it really didn't need one part at all.
The failed rescue attempt by Yara - against the desires of her father - does give her an opportunity to play the hero, but overall, all it achieves (aside from serving the agenda to protect Ramsay when he was already at near-God status anyway) is making the Greyjoys look terrible.
Yara claims she's gathering “the 50 best killers on the Iron Islands” to sail to Theon's rescue and she does pretty well until Ramsay threatens her with some dogs and they all scarper. Sure, it shows that Theon is completely locked in as Reek tragically, but the execution of the whole sequence is awful and the damage it does to Yara's characterisation and reputation is unforgivable.
