Game Of Thrones: 10 Theories That Turned Out To Be Bulls*it

2. Benjen Stark Is Coldhands

Coldhands sadly hasn't made it to the TV show (and it doesn't seem as though he ever will now), but in the books he's a character that's a huge point of mystery and intrigue, mostly because no one has any idea who/what he really is. He helps Bran on his journey North of The Wall, and although he looks similar to a wight, and has ice cold skin, he is an intelligent being, has black hands from congealed blood gathering there, and rides a great elk. It seems as though he is a brother of the Night's Watch, as this is how he refers to Sam Tarly, and he wears a black cloak. That has led to speculation he is one of the missing brothers we know about; more specifically Benjen Stark, the long-missing uncle of Jon Snow. It fits with why he would be helping Bran, as it'd be his nephew, and would solve the strange disappearance of Ned's brother. However, when Bran asks Leaf about him, he states that he died a long time ago. By this point Benjen has been missing for a couple of years, which isn't really enough to be considered long ago, especially not to the Children of the Forest, who have been around for centuries. An old manuscript also surfaced online, in which Martin's editor asked if Coldhands was Benjen, and he emphatically replied "No.". There are still many other theories for Coldhands, and hopefully the books (if not the show) have something awesome planned for both him and Benjen, but whatever it is the two won't be the same person.
