Game Of Thrones: 10 Worst Characters Who Appeared After Season One

5. The Waif

Euron Game of Thrones
HBO

From the get-go, The Waif just comes across as a bit weird, and we're all still a little unsure as to what her identity and purpose was supposed to be to this day.

Was she a mentor figure to Arya, or even a doppelganger of some kind? Was she a jealous, spiteful assassin? Was she even a real person at all, or some kind of unique entity intended as a test to the younger Stark sister?

Whatever you think, there's no denying that the character just comes out of nowhere and doesn't do a great deal from there. We don't know anything about The Waif, and yet it becomes more infuriating as the show goes on that we learn absolutely nothing about her. Granted, she's supposed to be a trained assassin with no name or identity, but sadly that creates a major hindrence to her characterisation.

Seen only as an apprentice of the mysterious Jaqen H’Quar, The Waif comes across as inferior to her master and seems to have been set up as a plot device purely for Arya to defeat.

While the climax of her story makes for suspenseful entertainment, the journey leading up to it is nothing short of boring and confusing.
