5. The Night King

Game of Thrones billed the battle between the living and the dead as the show's climax. While Jon Snow and Daenerys commanded the living, The Night King led the forces of the dead, acting as the living embodiment of death.

Throughout the battle, The Night King and his troops wreaked havoc on the living. Fan favourite characters like Theon Greyjoy, Jorah and Lyanna Mormont, and Edd Tollett were killed, Winterfell was nearly destroyed, and the Dothraki were almost entirely eliminated. Every single evil act committed by the White Walkers, wights, and army of the dead can be traced back to the Night King.

Just as the battle seemed lost and the Night King prepared to kill Bran, eliminating the history of men with him, Arya jumped from the shadows. The Night King caught her, but she was quick enough to drop and catch her Valyrian steel dagger, stabbing him with it. When taking the wound, he shattered, and every other undead monster fell with him.

Not only was it satisfying to see the Night King fall, but fans breathed a collective sigh of relief when Arya saved the world from his terror.
