Ask any Game of Thrones fan what the most heartbreaking moment of the series is, and those who don't say the quality of the finale will answer - the Red Wedding. This infamous massacre took place in Season 3, when, during Edmure Tully's wedding to Roslin Frey, the Frey's troops turned on the Starks, killing Robb, his wife Talisa, his mother Catelyn, and nearly all of his men.

At the head of this operation was Walder Frey, who felt slighted that Robb married another woman after promising himself to one of the Frey girls. Walder invited Robb's troops in for a wedding and slaughtered them as if it were battle, making their deaths all the more heartbreaking.

The Starks got their revenge three seasons later, when Arya snuck into the Twins and, disguised as a serving girl, fed Walder a pie made of his own sons. Arya reveals herself to a horrified Walder, before slitting his throat and telling him that the last thing he sees before he dies will be a Stark smiling down at him.

Upon Walder's death, and Arya's subsequent killing of all his co-conspirators, The Red Wedding was finally avenged.
