Game Of Thrones: 12 'Oh It's That Guy From That Thing' Actors

4. Old Nan (Margaret John)

Margaret John passed away in February 2011, but not before making two wonderful appearances in the 1st season of Game of Thrones. She would spook Bran with tales of the long winters the Northern Folk had suffered in the past, of the years that passed without daylight, of the sickness.... and of the White Walkers. John delivered it in the way you could imagine your own Grandma telling your story and was a fantastic element of shaping the Game of Thrones world. John worked right up until she died, with her most notable role coming as Barry Island's resident Grandkougar, Dorris, in the British hit sit-com, Gavin & Stacey. Regularly, would Dorris' mischievous wink and uncouth doorstep chit-chat be the talking point of the episode. She turned stereotypical old lady on it's head and instead, gave a performance as a crass, foul-mouthed, weed-smoking OAP. She really was 'the Girl Next Door'. She also appeared in Skins, Doctor Who (the one with faceless Grandma), Casualty, Doctors and a wealth of other British TV dramas and independent movies. Margaret John - hero.
