Game Of Thrones: 12 Things You Learn Rewatching Season 4
4. Watchers On The Wall Is Underappreciated
Compared to the likes of Blackwater, Hardhome, and Battle of the Bastards, Watchers on the Wall isn't quite as strong an episode of Game of Thrones, which largely stems from the fact that the storyline of the Wildlings vs Watch is just a tad underdeveloped.
Judged on its own merits, though, it is still an unbelievably good piece of filmmaking from Neil Marshall. There's some stuff in here that, as far as spectacle goes, is up there with the best of Thrones action: that 360 shot showing us the various elements of the battle is stunning, as is the reveal of the giant scythe.
There are some wonderful character beats to go with the action too, not least of which is the moment Ygritte dies in Jon''s arms, still standing as one of the saddest exists in the series, and helping to push forward his mission in Season 5.
