Game Of Thrones: 12 Things You Learn Rewatching Season 4

3. Oberyn's Death Never Gets Easier

In just one season, Obery Martell establishes himself as not only a fan-favourite, but one of Game of Thrones' greatest characters. There are people who'll have spanned all eight seasons and won't be as memorable as the Red Viper was. That's only partly because of his death - he's also just insanely cool, but also with a sense of honour as well - and yet, that is the last memory of him.

A memory that involves his head being squeezed until it starts bleeding and then explodes.

Since then, the image has been seen countless times. The episode too. But despite that, it never gets any easier to stomach, not least because he has victory in his grasp, and then loses it in an instant. The Red Wedding is a bigger shocker in terms of pure, visceral horror, but in terms of a scene that's just purely difficult to watch and makes you squirm, there's not much to match this.
