When Season 4 was coming to a close, many viewers were waiting for just a little bit more. There'd be another scene, right? Were they going to do a MCU-esque post-credits scene?! Fans in the know were expecting the arrival of Lady Stoneheart, the reanimated corpse of Catelyn Stark who is hell-bent on revenge against the Lannisters, Freys, and Boltons.

But despite the expectation, Stoneheart never arrived. Ok, we thought, they're just waiting until the end of Season 5, when they can give her a bigger role. That didn't happen either, and heading into Season 8, there's zero chance of Stoneheart appearing. And while that's understandably dismayed a lot of fans, looking back it's an understandable decision, and clear they don't really need Stoneheart either.

Aside from the scheduling and contractual difficulties of getting Michelle Fairley back, there's also the fact that, narratively, her role has been taken on by her two daughters: Sansa wiped out the Boltons, and Arya the Freys, with the latter on a particularly vengeful path.
