Game Of Thrones: 14 Things You Learn Rewatching Season 3

5. The Boltons' Deception Is Hiding In Plain Sight

Roose Bolton Game of Thrones

The Boltons end up taking the North in stunning fashion, with Roose turning on the Starks at the Twins and revealing his allegiance with the Lannisters, alongside Theon's torturer revealing himself as Ramsay Snow, Roose's bastard son.

And yet, that deception was hiding in plain sight all along. In Season 2, Roose sends his bastard to take Winterfell back from the Ironborn, and Robb says he wants Theon kept alive. All of a sudden, in Season 3, Theon is being held captive and tortured in the North by a mysterious figure - and one who has a penchant for flaying, no less.

Meanwhile, Roose decides to remain at Harrenhal, where he greets Jaime Lannister less as a captured prisoner and more as an old friend. This was Robb's prize prisoner, and his return should be a huge deal that the King in the North is informed of immediately, but Roose does no such thing. He shows real kindness to Jaime instead. At the time it's harder to spot, but knowing what their true intentions are at this point, it becomes clear that it was there all along.
