Game Of Thrones: 25 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Need To See

10. My Name Is Inigo Montoya

Prince Oberyn arrived in season 4, quickly becoming one of the most popular characters thanks to his charm, honour, distaste for the Lannisters, and the fact he was clearly a bad-ass. Obviously it was never going to last. The Red Viper love affair ended in brutal fashion, with Gregor Clegane bursting his head, but before that mind-blowing moment there was a nod to another beloved fantasy warrior. Oberyn, hellbent on revenge, repeats throughout the fight: €œYou raped her. You murdered her. You killed her children.€ This echoes Inigo Montoya from the Princess Bride, similarly a revenge seeking exotic fighter, who states: €œMy name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.€ Things, er, worked out a little better for him than they did for Oberyn, sadly.
