Game Of Thrones: 25 Key Details You Need To Know & Remember For Season 8

12. Melisandre To Varys

Varys has no love for the Lord of Light's followers, and in Season 7 he told Melisandre, whom he met at Dragonstone, to leave Westeros and never return. The Red Witch's response was enough to seriously spook the Spider, as she said:

"I have to die in this strange country, just like you."

It's meaning is, really, quite simple: Melisandre will return to die in Westeros, and that's where Varys will die too. As the White Walkers approach, that makes a lot of sense, as there is a clear means of their deaths, but it's worth remembering all the same.

Added to this is that Melisandre went to Volantis, a city where R'hllor has a large following, and where a band of soldiers who follow him, called the Red Priests, exist - could she be bringing them to Westeros to fight against the Night King? As for why Melisandre gave this warning to Varys, that too could be connected to whatever it was he heard in the flames when he was castrated. That's a lingering mystery, but might help explain how Melisandre is aware of his fate (if she's right, that is, given she's been wrong plenty of times before).
