Game Of Thrones: 5 Character Endings That Will Not Be The Same As The Books

3. Davos

Game of Thrones Cersei Jaime
HBO/Helen Sloan

A man that is woefully underqualified for just about everything he has found himself doing in Game of Thrones, Davos has somehow worked his way up from a smuggler from Flea Bottom, to the Hand of King Stannis, to Bran the Broken’s Master of Ships. All this despite committing treason in the eyes of Robert Baratheon’s brother, and having absolutely zero skills with a blade.

Up until his King’s forces attack the wildling host at Castle Black, Davos’ arc closely follows that of the books, yet shortly after this Stannis sends the smuggler roaming the north to find Rickon Stark. This means that he is not present when Jon Snow is murdered by his sworn brothers and will not be present when he is revived (assuming this happens in Winds of Winter).

Davos’ relationship with Jon Snow is key to his journey in the last few seasons and without it he would likely be nowhere near the King’s Small Council by the end, and the key to this relationship is seeing him come back to life and the power behind it. Since this will not happen in the books, it is hard to see how Davos’ path would take him all the way up to the council of a different king to the one he currently serves.
