Game Of Thrones: 5 Character Endings That Will Not Be The Same As The Books

2. Gendry

Gendry has had an interesting journey in Game of Thrones to say the least. From King’s Landing to the Brotherhood Without Banners, to getting leeched on Dragonstone then back to King’s Landing, going north of The Wall, and battling the dead at Winterfell before heading home as the new Lord of Storm’s End.

This however, is very different from his arc in the books. While he does join the Brotherhood after leaving King’s Landing with Arya, he is never taken to Dragonstone. The bastard of Robert Baratheon that is leeched on Dragonstone is called Edric Storm, whose character is merged with that of Gendry for the show. The last known whereabouts of the latter in the books is working as smith at the Crossroads Inn.

While anything could happen in the final two books, Gendry is nothing more than a minor character, and it is unlikely he will have much more to do before the final chapter of A Dream of Spring. The main reason he was brought back in the show after so long, as with the Hound, seems to be simply for fan service, rather than any real narrative purpose. He was made Lord of Storm’s End because the showrunners hadn’t addressed that particular title since Stannis’ demise, and it was a loose end that needed to be tied up.
