Game Of Thrones: 7 Best Moments From Breaker Of Chains

2. Arya Learns A Harsh Lesson

Just as Arya and the Hound were starting to find some common ground, the two clash once more as both their moral belief systems butt heads in this episode. While traversing through the Riverlands, they meet a father and his young daughter who invite them in for the night. They are pious and welcoming, even going so far as to ask the Hound to stay for a time so he can help harvest and protect them from outlaws. The Hound accepts, but the next morning Arya sees that he has injured and robbed the poor man. She is understandably upset, but the Hound makes it clear that this is a world where weak people like him will always be victims of the strong, so it might as well be him instead of someone else. Ever since Arya saw her father executed, her experiences since have been unpleasant, to say the least. She's seen people tortured and killed, her friend Gendry sold off, and her mother and brother butchered. Being a child, she has soaked all these experiences up like a sponge and learned from them. Unfortunately, the lessons she is learning are things no young girl should ever have to learn. The world is a mean and horrible place; where people like her family are taken advantage of by those of lower virtue. Her experience with the Hound this episode is just another means of hammering this point to her, and it is turning a once fun-loving and wild-spirited girl into a cold-blooded killer.
