Game Of Thrones: 7 Best Moments From Breaker Of Chains

3. Littlefinger Rescues Sansa

The episode opens with Sansa's escape from King's Landing with the aid of the fool Ser Dontos. He takes her to a single row boat which he uses to take her to a larger ship. It is revealed that Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish is aboard, and he is the one responsible for this whole plan to smuggle Sansa out of the city. Remember, Littlefinger has been gone since the middle of season 3, off to wed Lysa Arryn of the Eyrie. So his reappearance here is a surprise, though not so much in hindsight. He rewards Dontos's actions not with the gold he promised, but with crossbow bolts. This is an important scene because it reveals that Littlefinger is involved in some way with the death of Joffrey, though the specifics of it have yet to be revealed in full. What we do know is that Littlefinger has an enormous lust for power; Varys has stated that he is one of the most dangerous men in Westeros. Every action he takes brings him one step closer to sitting on the Iron Throne. But what does all this have to do with Sansa? Why did he go out of his way to smuggle her out of the capital? It is clear from the creepy way he looks at her that he has feelings of some kind; not surprising given he was in love with her mother. Whatever plans he has in store for Sansa, and what role, if any, she will play in his long term plans should be interesting to see play out over the coming episodes.
