Game Of Thrones: 8 Characters Who Should Get POVs In The Winds Of Winter

3. Balon Swann/Darkstar

Who Are They? - Though minor characters in the grand scheme of things, both Darkstar and Balon Swann are formidable warriors. After Princess Myrcella was sent to Dorne by Tyrion Lannister to become betrothed to Prince Trystane Martell, Darkstar became part of Arianne Martell's plot to crown Myrcella as the Queen of Westeros following the death of her brother Joffrey. This plot was brought to a swift end by Prince Doran Martell, however, resulting in Darkstar attempting to kill Myrcella (and succeeding in scarring her) before fleeing. Balon Swann was added to the Kingsguard prior to the Battle of the Blackwater and served as a loyal and honourable knight before he was sent to Dorne with two missions, the first to deliver the head of Gregor Clegane as a form of appeasement and the second to engineer the return of Princess Myrcella to King's Landing and the death of Prince Trystane. Informed of the conspiracy by his sources in Kings Landing, however, Prince Doran prevented Myrcella's departure, instead using her to convince Balon to hunt down Darkstar and bring him to justice (distracting him from the Martell's overall plot to support a Targaryen return). Why Should They Have A POV? - At some point, Balon and Darkstar are bound to run into each other and some form of battle is sure to commence. Darkstar's motivations are unknown at this point whilst Balon is somewhat expendable, suggesting that the former will prevail. Given that the two could engage in a fight rivalling The Mountain vs. The Viper in terms of brilliance, it would make sense to depict it in POV form (perhaps as the book's prologue chapter, where the POV character always dies) rather than relegate it to merely being mentioned offhand by somebody else.
