Game Of Thrones: 9 Things We Learned From The SXSW 2017 Panel
6. Meryn Trant Had The Most Expensive Death
This being Game of Thrones, there was inevitably a lot of talk around the subject of death, both past and future. One surprising detail was that the most expensive death on the show was that of Meryn Trant, who was killed in incredibly brutal fashion by Arya Stark. Benioff explained it, saying (with a laugh) "She couldn’t really poke out his eyes."
Also on the subject of complete bastards getting their comeuppance, they revealed that Locke (Noah Taylor) - Roose Bolton's hunter, and the man responsible for chopping off Jaime's hand - was initially supposed to die in Season 3, and a death scene was planned out, with Weiss and Benioff saying:
"He had a death scene in Season 3. Nikolaj [Coster-Waldau] was going to throw Noah Taylor’s character into the river and we were going to have him mauled by a bear, and we decided after working with Noah, he should stay on and he was too much fun.”
It would've been a sweet moment of revenge for Jaime, but then it's not like Locke's eventual death wasn't bloody awesome.
