Game Of Thrones: All The Hidden Messages & Meanings In Season 8 Teaser Trailer

1. Jon's Parentage Is Going To Be A BIG Deal

The crypts are a special place for all Starks, but they are most often directly tied to Jon Snow. One legend has it that the dragon Vermax, ridden by Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, laid an egg in the crypts when Jacaerys was visiting Winterfell. This, in turn, feeds the idea that a dragon caused the hot springs in Winterfell, but it also connects to Jon, who is half-Targaryen.

Another legend has it that Bael the Bard ran off with the Lord Brandon Stark's daughter. She returned with an infant child, who'd become Lord of Winterfell, and rumour has it they hid in the Crypts. Parallels have frequently been drawn between Bael the Bard and Rhaegar Targaryen, further tying the Crypts to Jon's heritage.

More tangibly, Jon frequently dreams of the Crypts in the books, knowing that there is something down there waiting for him. Are we about to discover what it is in Season 8?

Even the dialogue we hear is all about Jon. Lyanna says "You have to protect him." We hear Catelyn's speech from Season 3 about being unable "to love a motherless child." Finally, there's Ned, who says: "You are a Stark. You might not have my name, but you have my blood." That last part, of course, was said when Jon asked Ned about his mother.

Everything in the teaser, then, can be traced back to the fact that Jon is actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, a truth he and the rest of Westeros will discover in Season 8, and the impact of which is set to be huge.
