3. Drogon Is Literally Still Alive

The Ending

After Jon slays Dany, Drogon mourns her, burns the Iron Throne that was responsible for her death (look, he's clever, okay?) and then flies off mournfully with her body, giving Jon the perfect opportunity not to mention anything about killing her to her angry allies.

He really is the stupidest of the Starks.

But Wait...

On some level, Game of Thrones is the story of the threat of nuclear weapons and what happens when the person in charge of them is volatile. That's what the whole of Dany's destructive arc is about as George RR Martin pulls the trigger on his long-gestating idea.

Having the person in charge of the button disappear isn't necessarily the positive outcome for a nuclear anxiety story you might think. She might have been his guide to what and who to burn, but Dany was also the person who controlled Drogon and kept him in line. When he went off on his own, he basically had a dragon gap year and did what he wanted.

Now that he's unshackled, he's just out there potentially eating anyone he meets and likes the look of. You can't argue that you're not a snack to a nuclear weapon, after all. And if he gets it into his very intelligent head to ever go back and destroy King's Landing, there's not a great deal anyone would ever be able to do about it.
