Game Of Thrones Ending: 12 Disturbing Implications You Probably Missed
4. Nobody Comes Back From The Sunset Sea
The Ending
Because she's just like Nymeria, Arya's ending sees her heading out on her own (well, with a crew) to the west of Westeros on an intrepid journey of discovery. Her final shot is one of wistfully gazing out to new horizons and the promise of her own exciting Spring.
But Wait...
Want to know what's West of Westeros? Nobody knows. Want to know, more fundamentally, why nobody knows? Because nobody ever comes back. That might as well be a massive red flag. With a toxic symbol on it. And a skull and crossbones. On fire.
Arya is going to meet unspeakable horrors the likes of which nobody has ever categorised, because anyone who's seen them has been eaten, stabbed or just generally killed by them. Or they've simply disappeared entirely and nobody has ever been able to fathom.
The most famous names who went on the same journey - Brandon the Shipwright and Elissa Farman - both disappeared and were perhaps swallowed by the abyss. As Lady Crane tells Arya in Season 6 Episode 8 “the edge of the world” is west of Westeros, which is what compels her to go that way - “I’d like see that," she says.
The problem with seeing the edge of the world, of course, is that it's not something you can brag about after you've fallen off it.
