Game Of Thrones Finale: 10 Characters No One Expected To Make It To The End

2. Gendry

There are a few times when the majority of the fanbase thought Gendry wasn’t going to make it to the end.

The first time was when Davos sent him off in his little rowing boat, when many thought that, just like Illyrio Mopatis, Gendry would simply be disappearing off to whatever life he sailed into.

Season Seven though saw Gendry return, teaming up with Jon’s beyond the Wall suicide squad.

As the worst fighter of the bunch and someone needing to bite the billet for drama, his time looked to be up yet again. However, he turned out to be as good at running as he was at rowing, and was sent back early into the mission. In the end, it’s Viserion and Thoros of Myr who depart that episode.

Finally, after he and Arya get intimate on the eve of The Long Night, the Stark Girl was expected to survive but Gendry might well have gone.

He lives, and even gets Storm’s End, but he also forgets his bastard name (it would be Waters, not Rivers, but as he was unrecognised he wouldn’t even get one) and gets his heart broken. Can’t win ‘em all.
