Game Of Thrones Prequel: 9 Reasons To Be Excited (& 1 To Be Concerned)
6. It Largely Avoids The Main Series
A common issue with spin-offs, and particularly prequel stories, is running too close to the original series or movie. Because of this, we'll already know a lot of what happens and where characters end up, while familiar faces can also often be shoehorned in. There are exceptions to this - Better Call Saul is a wonderful example - but a lot of the time you're left wondering what the point was.
With the Age of Heroes, then, there's no chance of Ned Stark showing his un-decapitated head around Westeros or hearing mentions of the Targaryen child who might be the Prince That Was Promised. It takes place 10,000 years before the series, meaning we won't have any characters (except perhaps the Night King and Leaf) recurring, nor any over-the-top 'How Han Solo got his name nudge nudge wink wink' moments for the audience. It'll expand upon Westeros lore, but also feel fresh.
