Of course, as is often the case with spin-offs, it needs to be different but not too different. There's a reason Game of Thrones is the biggest show in the world, and the prequel has to offer up something new without alienating its mainstream fanbase.

A tricky task, but one that should be manageable in an Age of Heroes tale.

There may not be familiar faces, but we are going to see the likes of House Stark and Lannister, and even how they originated. With figures such as Serwyn and Symeon, there are great warriors to get behind, as well as true heroes such as Bran the Builder. And with the Long Night, the chance for an epic battle on par with what we can expect in Game of Thrones Season 8.

There may not be an Iron Throne, but core themes such as power and who wields it, the demands of duty and honour against principles and love, and the justification and acceptance of death will all have their part to play in this story as much as they do in Game of Thrones. There'll probably be some sex and violence too.
