6. New Characters Galore
Season 3 sees the introduction of several new characters to the storyline, some of which have been delayed from appearances in earlier books, such as Meera and Jojen Reed, who become involved with Bran Stark, acting as guides for the supernatural abilities that he has been hinted to possess over the past two seasons, and Brynden Tully, the fan favourite uncle of Catelyn Stark, who becomes an experienced ally to Robb Stark in his continued war against the Lannisters. Elsewhere, Arya Stark serves as the viewers eyes into the Brotherhood Without Banners, a band of Robin Hood style outlaws led by the mysterious Beric Dondarrion, who serves as an introduction to further supernatural elements of the story. Characters last seen in Season 1 will also make a reappearance, chief amongst them Barristan Selmy, a legendary knight dismissed by King Joffrey, who now seeks to serve Daenerys Targaryen instead.
