Game of Thrones has become a cultural phenomenon since it arrived on TV screens in 2011. Although the source material on which it is based, A Song of Ice and Fire, already had a huge following before it arrived on TV, it is the series appearance on the box that has propelled it into the public domain and consciousness. Both series boasts a huge array of characters, interweaving several plot lines over the course of four series and five books. As early as the season 1 pilot we were being treated to gruesome deaths as a White Walker dispatched several rangers while they were north of The Wall. Fans of the show quickly learnt that any character, regardless of popularity or importance, could soon be dead, as they watched in horror as Ned Stark lost his head in season one, Rob and Catelyn Stark were murdered during the Red Wedding and even The Hound, Sandor Clegane himself, was killed by Brienne at the end of season 4. It has even appeared at times that the worst of people in Westeros would never see their downfall, leaving viewers dismayed to say the least. That all changed last year of course, as everyone saw King Joffrey get his comeuppance during the Purple Wedding and even The Hand of the King, and seemingly lord of everything, Tywin Lannister be murdered by least favoured son Tyrion. With season five set to return next year, it seems perfect time to take a look at ten characters whose time on the show is probably going to end sooner rather than later.
