Sam Tarly is merrily making his way down the entire length of Westeros, a mighty long journey by anybody's standards let alone a cowardly Night's Watchman and his wildling mother and baby. If he does indeed reach Oldtown to begin his maester training, he'll have had to run close to his old homeland of Horn Hill, still occupied by the yet-to-be seen Randyll Tarly, Sam's father. He was the man who cast Sam away after threatening his life and branding him a failure. There are reports suggesting that Randyll has been cast, and if that's the case, you can guarantee they'll meet and sparks will fly.
