Most popular shows simply can't please everyone, but when it comes to Game Of Thrones, HBO purposefully sets up to ruin our lives. There's immense fan pressure on the frontrunners of this Golden Age of TV to get things right, and one wrong move can tarnish its entire legacy, yet Thrones still goes out and does the unthinkable - time and time again. People have invested so much time in watching the entire series several times, plus maybe reading the books, and then ploughed hours into discussing it with friends. This creates a perilous tightrope. Thrones must be shocking, harrowing, gut-punching and heart-breaking at the same time as handling characters with respect. Rather David Benioff and D.B. Weiss than me... The show's greatest moments have predominantly spawned from baffling, shock incidents and that must continue, but at the same time, fans expect more than just wanton slaughter in most scenarios. The grand finale for the entire show is still a long way down the road despite the plot beginning to angle in that direction, but exactly what (or who) that will revolve around is anybody's guess at the moment. It would be pure speculation to look that far ahead, though for now, there's a host of events that simply must take place in Season 6 if the show is to remain the king of the small screen.
