Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'No One'

2. The Rushed Siege And Blackfish Death

The Siege of Riverrun had some great scenes this week - I've picked out more from there than anywhere else for the 'ups' - and yet the whole thing manages to be much less than the sum of its parts.

Aside from the individual character beats, the siege itself falls rather flat. It spent time getting the various characters there, but then just seems desperate to get them away as soon as possible. There's no real drama, just Edmure walking into the castle, and the Tully army suddenly decides that yes, they will align themselves with the useless leader who has been missing for three years, rather than the guy who led them to taking back the castle in the first place. Ok...

Then there's the Blackfish's death, which happens off-screen. Maybe that's to add an air of mystery, and hope for another return, though to what purpose I don't know. If he is dead (and I'm working on that assumption), then it means they've brought him back for a couple of episodes, just to kill him off, and don't even give him a proper death. What a waste.
