Having allowed her son to watch his beloved bride be blown up in a great big dutch oven, Cersei left him to his own devices, assuming that he wasn't committed enough to Margaery to do anything drastic. You know, like allowing his mother to go on trial, or abolishing trial by combat, or accepting the Faith and handing over power to them.
It's like she wasn't paying even remote attention to the child who was supposed to be the object of her fierce, intense love. All of the signs that he would do stupid things in the name of love were already there, and yet Cersei neither sent her vicious man mountain to guard the king nor locked his windows. She's only got herself to blame for what happened next.
