Game Of Thrones Season 6: Every Death (So Far) Ranked Worst To Best

12. Balon Greyjoy

Balon Greyjoy Bridge
HBO

Balon Greyjoy was something of an oddity: a great character with a massive army and a major reputation who just seemed to sit around on the fringes complaining about everyone else. He may have been cherished as a leader (for some reason) and feared enough as an insurgent to remove his son from him, but he never really earned any of that in the show.

So, much like the Martells needed to die, his excision from the show came at the right time. Particularly as it allowed for the introduction of the far cooler Dread Pirate Euron.

Balons death was the most expected of all so far, given that wed seen it in the books already, and while it lived up to the page, it was pretty hard to actually care about him dying. Hed never been a sympathetic enough character and watching him humble over the bridge was just an exercise in narrative progression more than anything.
