Game of Thrones Season 6: 10 Things That Absolutely Shouldn’t Happen

1. Anything Not Approved By George R.R. Martin

Is this a controversial point? Potentially, but this is George R.R. Martin's story, let the man tell it himself. It's disappointing that the author hasn't managed to produce The Winds Of Winter before now, but there should be no blame attributed to his name. If the story isn't perfect, it simply isn't worth rushing it out to book stores around the world. The book is finished when Martin says it is finished.

There are a few loose storylines that Benioff and Weiss can translate from ink to screen, but on the whole, they're going to be largely free-styling in Season 6 without a major amount of published source material to work from. George R.R. Martin will consult on the story, but in the eyes of many, if the big man doesn't agree with a plot point for the show, it should be thrown out immediately.

This is a critical season for Game Of Thrones, and it'll take sharp discipline from the directors to make it work without the source material, but within Martin's plans. Of course the show should be putting its own spin on events, but the major storylines must sprout from Martin's work, or at least be approved by him. Otherwise, the show will shape the future of the books, when in reality, the exact opposite approach proved successful enough to turn A Song Of Ice And Fire into a global phenomenon.
